Course Overview:

This immersive workshop introduces participants to the enchanting world of the Monochord (Kotamo) and the Indian Tanpura—two instruments renowned for their deeply meditative and therapeutic sound qualities. Rooted in ancient traditions, these string instruments are powerful tools in sound healing, known for creating rich harmonic overtones that promote relaxation, balance, and inner stillness. Through guided exploration, hands-on practice, and theoretical insight, participants will discover how to integrate these instruments into personal wellness routines or professional therapeutic settings.

Course Objectives:

  • Gain foundational knowledge of Monochords (Kotamo) and Tanpura instruments, including their cultural and therapeutic significance.

  • Understand how these instruments are used in sound therapy, covering key applications, tuning methods, and playing techniques.

  • Learn the basics of the Indian musical scale and the system of Saptaks (octaves) as they relate to the Tanpura.

  • Develop hands-on skills with both instruments, enabling confident use in personal meditation or professional healing sessions.
